Our paver sealing process begins with a thorough pressure cleaning — and this step is non-negotiable. Sealing over contaminated, stained, or biologically compromised pavers traps the damage in permanently. We use a commercial surface cleaner to deep clean every paver face, flush the joints, and remove all biological growth, staining, and debris.
After cleaning and full drying, we re-sand the joints with polymeric sand — a sand-polymer mixture that hardens when wetted and cures to resist weed germination and ant intrusion. Standard sand washes out and blows away within a season or two; polymeric sand stays in place.
The sealer we apply is a commercial-grade penetrating product — not the film-forming topcoat sealers you find at hardware stores, which peel, cloud, and require complete removal before resealing. Penetrating sealers work inside the paver matrix, protecting against staining and freeze-thaw damage.
Central Ohio's freeze-thaw cycle is the primary threat to paver longevity. Water in unsealed paver joints expands and contracts through winter, eventually working the joint sand loose and destabilizing the paver installation.
